What Does a Nutritionist Eat All Day?

I absolutely love it when my family comes to visit and we always have an incredible time. The other great benefit about these family visits is that, without fail, everyone always goes home lighter.

Everyone goes home lighter? What does that even mean?

When friends or family spend a whole week eating with me, they quickly learn how delicious healthy eating really is (and how easy it is too). I know what you're thinking, and I promise I do not starve my guests. Actually, it's quite the opposite. They always feel like they've "eaten too much," but still somehow manage to lose weight over the course of a week or even after just a few days.

So what exactly do I eat all day (including my favorite supplements)? People ask me this all of the time because with the demands of being a mom and working full time, they just can't believe how I'm still able to keep up with a healthy lifestyle.

This is how I stay energized and full all day long.

I wake up before my the rest of my family so I have time to myself in the morning. I check my emails and sip on some herbal tea with a bit of stevia.

I take my turmeric supplements with a flax seed and Daily Energy shake.

Daily Energy has become an absolute staple in my eating plan. It's made from a variety of organic fruits and vegetables with added probiotics and digestive enzymes... it's my daily dose of "nutrition insurance" perfect for preventing cravings. It also gives me energy I need all day long.

I put 1 tablespoon of fresh flax seeds in my Magic Bullet (you can also use a coffee grinder). I grind up the seeds to make flax powder. I then add 1 tablespoon Daily Energy, water, ice and a touch of stevia and blend.

By this time my sons are awake and ready for breakfast. They have either protein pancakes, bacon, or an egg scramble with a side of fresh fruit.

This is around the time when I take an Omega-3 supplement and cozy up to a warm bowl of oatmeal with Spring of Life Plant-Based Protein Powder

My sons start school and I start working during the week. Whether I'm writing newsletters from my home office or filming new videos for the Beyond Diet community, I always make sure to eat healthy foods throughout the day.

To kick cravings while keeping my metabolism in gear, I snack on 1 ounce raw nuts with 1 cup sliced carrots between breakfast and lunch.

Lunch is always exactly what I ate for dinner the night before (prep once, eat twice!). The trick is to plan ahead... prepare an extra serving of dinner and bam, your lunch is all done! If I had baked wild salmon with asparagus (or a side salad) and ½ sweet potato last night for dinner, I would save a serving of everything to have for lunch the next day. Even though I eat plenty of foods packed with Omega-3s, I have another Omega-3 supplement with my lunch to fight chronic inflammation and improve my hair and skin health (and if you suffer from joint pain, you should consider an Omega-3 supplement, too).

I have definitely found that creating a "system" for packing and prepping your food will make following a healthy eating plan much, much easier. Find a system that works well for you and your family.

My afternoon snack can be the same as morning snack. I don't always do this, but when it's easy, why not keep it easy! Some other great snack choices are an apple, ½ banana or 1 cup sliced carrots paired with 2 Tbsp almond butter; 4 oz Greek yogurt with ½ cup fruit and 1 tsp raw honey; 2 protein popsicles; a protein-packed smoothie; or a small side salad with 2 oz sliced turkey.

We marinate some skirt steaks or chicken and my hubby gets the grill going (it's usually always grilling weather in the south!). We also grill some seasonal veggies like eggplant and zucchini that I marinate in apple cider vinegar, sea salt, pepper, and Italian spices. I'll also prepare some rice, quinoa or another healthy carb to go along with the meal (see, I told you nobody goes hungry around here). I take one last Omega-3 supplement with my dinner!

I don't always have a snack before bed and I don't recommend that it be part of your every day, but, if you're feeling hungry, protein (or protein and fat) is your best bet. My favorite is 1 Tbsp almond butter with cinnamon sprinkled on top. I love this snack because it is super filling and really helps to curb any cravings that may start in the evening.

There you have it... nothing complicated or bland. I love my clean, healthy food and how it makes me feel all day. I always choose foods I enjoy and I never "make" myself eat something just because I think it's supposed to be good for me (although it is important to be open minded and adventurous).

Do you have to use protein powder and take all of the same superfood supplements I do to be successful on your weight loss journey? Of course not! But to make my life as a working mom more manageable (because "doing it all" isn't always possible!), I rely on effective and valuable supplements in addition to healthy protein, carbs, and fats. I also believe in the health benefits of high quality turmeric, Daily Energy greens, Omega-3s, and protein powder to stay energized, prevent cravings, fight inflammation, and keep my time in the kitchen at a minimum.

Cecilia - Mate is fine to drink. It's best to keep caffeinated drinks to a minimum though (1-2 drinks/day).

Can I have mate replacing coffee?
Coach Chrissy
Susan - If you want to move around your snacks and meals that's fine. Just do your best to eat every few hours throughout your day.

Kimberly - You can drink bone broth at any time. So whenever it fits into your schedule is fine (about 1/2-1 cup/day).
