It's super easy to cook perfect rice in a rice cooker. So if you are new to cooking - I highly recommend getting a rice cooker!
Soak rice in filtered water for 20 minutes then drain. Add all ingredients into slow cooker, close lid and set to brown rice.
Do not peek. Let the rice cooker tell you when it's done.
I had a terrible time cooking rice on the stove or in the oven. I bought an inexpensive rice cooker that has a brown rice setting (Aroma - but there are lots of brands to choose from). I tried the recipe in the booklet that came with the cooker and it came out horrible - so forget that. The little cup that comes with the cooker is actually only 3/4 cup or 6 ounces. I use a ratio of 3/4 cup rice to 2 cups liquid and it comes out perfect every time. The soaking helps keep it from being sticky.
1/2 cup cooked rice is 1 carb.
I like to make a big batch to have some on hand.
Goes great in a stir fry or in burritos (My youngest calls burritos that are made with rice Wacky Burritos).
There are lots of different types of brown rice. Vera told me about basmatti rice when I first joined - it's a really tasty rice and I cook it a lot in the rice cooker. I'm not sure which I use more - my slow cooker or my rice cooker. Both are very good appliances to have on hand especially if you are new to cooking. Super easy to use and easy to clean up too.
