A delicious breakfast side or add to scrambled eggs


    3 tsp. sea salt

    1 tsp. black pepper

    1/4 c. beef broth

    7 c. steel cut oats

    7 c. water

    16 oz. ground beef

    16 oz. pork sausage

    2 med. onion

    3 bay leaf

    2 tsp. dried sage


Combine the steel cut oats and water in a crockpot. Cook on high for 1 1/2 hours.

Brown ground beef, then drain. Brown sausage, then drain. Add both meats to oats.

Add chopped onions, bay leaves, sage, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix all, pour beef broth over everything, place lid on crockpot, and cook on low for 5 hours, stirring occasionally.

When done, pour into 2 greased loaf pans. Let cook 15 - 20 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours before eating. (This dish may also be frozen.) Fry in nonstick frying pan for 10 to 15 minutes on med. high. May be eaten alone or with scrambled eggs.
