For gifts or samples, I put the dry ingredients in a zip-lock snack bag. I started doing that when someone told me how good McDonald's oatmeal was..... Need I say more? This is so good - no sugar need be added. The sugar in the dried cranberries and the currants is plenty sweet - and the frozen blueberries added taste like fresh ones. Plus, my "good cholesterol" has risen a great deal - a win-win recipe!
1/3 c. old-fashioned oats
2 tbsp. slivered almonds
2 tbsp. dried cranberries
1 tsp. shredded coconut
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2/3 c. water
1 tbsp. dried currants
1/2 c. frozen blueberries
Night Before: Put all dry ingredients in a small saucepan. Cover.
In the morning: turn burner on high. Set the timer for 2 minutes and 20 seconds. When the timer rings, turn off the burner and add frozen blueberries to the saucepan. Let sit while you get dressed. Blueberries will thaw. Add a little milk and stir into the oatmeal, if you like it more moist. Yum!
