Bacon Soup

This soup is really delicious and tasty aspecially in cold winter days and beside, it is very healthy and it's one of our Maltese dishes


    1 med. onion

    1 sea salt & black pepper

    1 slc. cabbage

    1 sml. cauliflower

    1 carrot

    1 pumpkin

    2 sml. zucchini

    1 white or gold potatoes

    1 stlk. celery stalk, fresh, organic

    1 uncured bacon

    1/2 c. barley flour

    1/2 c. split peas

    2 tbsp. tomato paste


Soak the pulses for about 4 hrs. rinse well and put in a big pot with the tomato paste, barley, bacon and chopped onion. cover with water and start cooking for about 1/2hr. Meanwhile peel, chop and wash the vegetables and add to the pot and all the remaining ingredients.Cook for another 45min or until the meat and veggies are tender. turn off and let it set for a while. (before plating the soup you can take the potato masher and mash the veggies in the pot) when plated you can sprinkle some grated cheese if you like ..enjoy
