Over the years, I have seen some resolutions come true, and some resolutions get left behind on January 1st.
And I started thinking to myself, why is it that we stick to some of our resolutions and some we just never get around to?
Do any of these sound familiar?
All of them are absolutely wonderful! Now we just need to know how to put them into action.
But, before you begin, you must ask yourself one very, VERY important question...
"What does this New Year's resolution mean to me?"
It can mean anything to you, but it has to mean something.
Does it mean that you will feel more comfortable in your body? Does it mean you'll fit into a dress you've been hanging on to for years? Does it mean having more energy for your kids or grandkids? Does it mean no more outrageous medical bills and costly medicines?
For so many people, every New Year's resolution has a different meaning. Losing the weight is fantastic! But it's not the goal. The goal is what losing weight MEANS to you.
Once you know WHY your resolution means so much to you, you can then think about how you're going to implement them and truly make them happen.
Here are the tips that follow after the WHY...
Diving in to a completely new resolution head on will only overwhelm you. Take baby steps and accomplish the smaller things first. Whether it means incorporating one extra healthy food a week and slowly cutting out other unhealthy foods from you diet, don't pressure yourself to make everything happen at once. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day!
Create realistic milestones or "mini-goals" for yourself. For example, if it's dropping 3 pounds in 2 weeks or having more vegetables in your meals, give yourself goals that you know you can reach in shorter periods of time. This way, you can really track the progress you are making.
Having a positive attitude towards your New Year's resolution is absolutely crucial, but how do you get there? I've found that the best way to feel great about every day is to recite positive affirmations. Remind yourself that you CAN reach your goals. Remind yourself that you are CAPABLE. Remind yourself of every little achievement you make.
Surround yourself with others who have similar goals. Whether it's a friend, a partner, or even one of the wonderful members you meet in the Beyond Diet Community, find other's who are like-minded. You will not only be able to chat about your goals, but you will also be able to motivate one another and keep each other aligned.
Even if you don't see the results you want immediately, or feel like you've gone off track, don't give up. If you don't meet your monthly goal of losing 5 pounds or accidentally eat non-BD approved food one weekend, there will still be time to get back on track and start afresh once more. With the support of over 1 Million Beyond Diet community members, our certified BD Coaches, and myself, you will have so many people cheering you on so you'll be able to reach any resolution you set out to reach.
