Unless you’ve been completely off the internet for the past several years, you probably already know how incredibly beneficial bone broth is for your health.
From healing your intestinal wall, to helping your body ward off wrinkles, it really can be considered a magic potion for the body.
But, even after the countless emails I’ve written about bone broth and its healing properties, people still ask,
“So how exactly should I use bone broth? Drink it in the morning? In the evening? Use it in cooking? Take a bath in it?”
I guess all of those are viable options…LOL.
But in all seriousness, here are the top ways I use bone broth every single day. Yes, there isn't a day I go without it, unless I’m traveling, and even then, I can usually find some quality bone broth nearby.
This is routine for me. When I go into the kitchen to heat up my lunch (which is always left-over dinner from the night before, I first heat up ½ cup of bone broth and sip on that as I wait for my leftovers to heat up. Sometimes I add 1 drop of ginger essential oil for extra digestive benefits. I follow the same routine before dinner, and sip on my bone broth as I cook dinner.
I absolutely love soup. Even in the summer, I’ve been known to make a big pot of my delicious Chicken Cauliflower Rice Soup. It is so delicious and filling and one of my favorite dinners. When the recipe calls for simple beef or chicken stock, use bone broth instead. It won't change the taste of the soup, it'll only make it seem richer and more flavorful.
Instead of using water as a base for cooking rice or quinoa, you can use bone broth instead. I think the chicken broth flavor works best here. If you’re tired of just plain ‘ol brown rice or quinoa, definitely gives this a try. I might try making oatmeal like this next. I know, it sounds a little weird, but I’ve seen several recipes on the internet for “savory oatmeal” where you cook oatmeal in bone broth and then add a cooked egg on top. Definitely worth a try!
Well, making my own bone broth is always my #1 choice. It’s simple, but it does require a bit of a time commitment.
Ingredients:
*You can add carrots, onions and celery, but I only do this if I have time. Otherwise, I use the super simple recipe above.
Directions:
Place all the ingredients in a slow cooker. Let it sit for about 15 minutes so the vinegar can begin to pull the healing nutrients from the bones. Cook on low for 24-48 hours (the longer, the better). Remove the bones and discard. Strain the broth to make sure no small particles remain. Divide the broth into freezer safe mason jars to put in the refrigerator or the freezer.
This process is easy, but it does take time.
Alternatively, you can purchase very high-quality bone broth. These are usually available in stores like Whole Foods, though you can easily buy them online.
My 2 favorite brands are:
Now’s a great time to stock up on bone broth since Kettle & Fire is offering up to 3 free cartons with your 1st purchase. And it’s a great way to give bone broth a try with no cooking required!
Whether you’re trying bone broth for the first time or stocking up your pantry, I can’t recommend Kettle & Fire enough—it’s the best price for extremely high-quality ingredients.
