Cravings — when they rear their ugly heads, it's so hard to get a handle on them. For me, it was always the muffins and baked goods at the coffee shop where I studied in college that would completely derail my healthy efforts... especially around exam time!

But how can we successfully squash cravings before they cause a dietary disaster?

They say prevention is the best medicine, and I find that to be 100% true when it comes to sneaky cravings.

The #1 way to prevent cravings is....

    • Healthy Eating
    • Clean Eating

I used to be able to go weeks in between grocery shopping, mainly because I used to buy frozen/convenience items in bulk. The kids and hubby could easily heat these foods up when I wasn't home or just didn't feel like cooking. Frozen burritos, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, Easy Mac, Hamburger Helper, Chef Boyardee...you name it, we had it. If it was quick and easy, I BOUGHT IT. Shopping this way would add up pretty quickly – in terms of money AND in terms of weight.

When I joined Beyond Diet, I was ready for a change, but I didn't want to force this "crazy way of eating" on my family. I continued buying all the "normal" processed, convenience food, but I bought all this new healthy produce and meat to cook separate meals for myself. This made my grocery bill outrageous!!! I soon learned that buying organics on top of my normal shopping list was extremely pricey, and the good stuff was going bad in my fridge faster than I could eat it.

Something had to change. I was throwing a lot of money away. But then it dawned on me…like a light bulb literally turned on above my head. Even though I had heard it many times before, I finally got it. If your food goes bad, it’s good for you. If your food doesn't go bad, it’s bad for you. Ugh...what was I feeding my family?!

I decided to make more frequent trips to the grocery store and ONLY buy what I was going to eat for WEEK. I explained to my family that once all the “junk” we had in our house was gone, it was GONE. I made meal plans for each week and bought the items and ingredients needed for that week.

Eureka! With only visiting the produce, meat, and dairy sections of the store, I could suddenly afford my lifestyle! Even better…I was actually spending less than I used to. If you stop buying processed junk, organics are totally affordable. :)
