Sleepy Time Moon Milk

Have you ever wondered if sleep, good or bad, affects way more than just your next day’s energy levels and mood?

The short answer is, if you’re having any issues falling (or staying asleep), you may be sabotaging yourself in more ways than you can imagine.

As a society, over the past 50 years, we continue to decrease the quality and length of our sleep. This cumulative decrease in sleep, has reduced our bodies’ ability to recover from daily stress, regenerate healthier cells, and rejuvenate our overall health. Not to mention, leads to weight gain, increased cortisol and stress levels, and probably drives your spouse/partner nuts to boot.

So, what’s keeping you up at night?

Maybe you lay in bed, with a mind that wanders to that day’s check list, reviewing it, ensuring you completed everything.

Maybe you are the type who is kept up by contemplating your future to-do list for tomorrow.

Or maybe you’re just the type who lays there disconnecting from the day, playing games on your cell phone.

Regardless of what has kept you up in the past…there is…

A 3000-Year-Old (DeliciousNighttime Sipper

that will calm your mind, remove free radicals (stressors to your body that cause aging) and help you fall asleep quickly - and it’s even safe for kids too.

One of the oldest Ayurvedic (ancient Indian practice of life-knowledge) traditions uses an adaptogen called Ashwagandha, a non-toxic plant, to help your body remove stress, decrease overall inflammation and increases sleep.

What are some of the benefits of Ashwagandha?

Ashwagandha has many proven benefits. It can reduce cortisol (the stress hormone that causes weight gain- especially around the middle). In several controlled studies, Ashwagandha has shown to reduce anxiety, stress, depression and insomnia. Lastly, it's been shown to improve memory and brain function.

Ashwagandha, fused with a few other mighty anti-inflammatory, natural sleep aids, glucose/adrenal stabilizing spices and some good ole’ fashion warmed milk will quickly create a delicious, sipper that will shift you from any hectic day to a relaxed state transporting you to a night of sound sleep.

Here’s our favorite Sleepy Time Moon Milk Recipe (oh, and we always recommend using organic when you can for best benefits):

(1 serving)

  • 1 Cup Almond or Full Fat Coconut Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Coconut Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Honey
  • ¼ Teaspoon Ground Ashwagandha
  • ½ Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • ½ Teaspoon Ground Turmeric
  • 3 Pinches of Ground Cardamom
  • 2 Pinches of Ground Ginger
  • Pinch of Ground Nutmeg
  • Ground Black Pepper

Prep/Cook

Simmer almond milk (or coconut milk) in a small saucepan over a medium/low heat. Add in ground ashwagandha, cinnamon, turmeric, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg and pepper. Whisk briskly until smooth. Add in coconut oil and reduce heat to a low simmer, continue to cook until warm, approximately 7 minutes. Remove from heat, add honey and stir. Pour into your favorite mug, enjoy, and then crawl into your cozy bed ready to drift into dreamland.

Buenos Noches Hermosa!

I've been reading about Ashwagandha and it's wonderful benefits but, many people have a very hard time with both the taste and the "mixability" in liquids. Is there a brand you prefer, Isabel, and do you feel like the moon milk masks the flavor?

Can I use regular low fat cow milk
