Because I'm not perfect...

  • Inspiration

Man, what a year... can I just say that again?

My Beautiful Family"What a year!"

This year has been so jam packed full of wonderful successes as well as downright awful failures, but do you know what? I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.

I am one year older, a little bit wiser, and have earned a few more wrinkles to prove it - which I will happily wear as a badge of honor. :)

As this year comes to a close and I get ready to celebrate Christmas with my beautiful family, I can't help but spend some time thinking about all the great things that have happened this year...

But that's not always the case for a lot of people.

Too many forget to look at the good because they're too busy reflecting on all the bad. Not to mention all the things they didn't accomplish this year or resolutions that died before spring.

And I have to be honest here, that used to be me too. I used to think...

"I said I was going to declutter the house this year and our closets are still a mess."

Or

"I said the kids were going to be fluent in Spanish by the end of the year and they're not even close."

And on and on I would go, beating myself up for all the things I didn't do, completely ignoring all the wonderful accomplishments that DID happen.

This year is different, because life hit me hard in 2015...

I lost not 1, not 2, but 3 wonderful people in my life that were all under the age of 40. My heart still falls to my stomach as I type those words. Life has a way of stopping you in your tracks sometimes and these events, although difficult, helped me to realize one important lesson that I am grateful for this year...

"Focus on what matters and the rest will be ok."

FamilySo what if this wasn't the year you lost every pound you intended to lose? You get another shot at it every single day. Have you made a few changes that have made you healthier? Celebrate that success.

So what if your finances aren't perfect and maybe a bit disorganized? You get another shot at this too every day. Have you become a bit more aware of your spending habits? Yup, celebrate that.

So what if your exercise plan got a little derailed with the holidays? You guessed it...

You get another shot at that too, every day.

This year, on Christmas Eve, I've decided to be grateful for every lesson that has come my way. Every mistake, every failed goal and every imperfect situation that, maybe, in its imperfection, has made me a better person.

How about you?

What wonderful things did you accomplish this year?

NOT what didn't you do, but alternatively, what great things DID you do?

During this special time, celebrate those successes and remember that every day is another day to start anew.

Bless you and your family as you celebrate this season and, as always, I only wish you health and happiness in the year to come.
