Ooga-Booga. Who knew that those ancient ancestors of ours would have dieting down to a simple science? Yes, they could barely speak a lick of English and they would probably think the written word looked like pretty pictures, but they innately knew what was good for their bodies - and for their survival. Why is it with all of our newfangled technology and schooling in the present, we can't seem to do the same?

Well that's simple - we're being told a bunch of lies and propaganda through various media outlets and they're filling our heads and our bodies with useless information and "nutrition." We need to go back to simpler times; times when pretty packaging didn't sway our food choices and there were no dangerous additives in and on our meats, fruits, and vegetables. Here are a few reasons why the caveman had it all right:

Cavemen didn't have to schedule time to get their workouts in - every day was a workout. Pushing those boulders, chopping down trees, walking to see friends and hunting and throwing their spears - all of these necessary life skills primed the caveman body to build extraordinary amounts of muscle and burn an infinite amount of calories.

Now, I am not telling you to go out and do those same things, but you can find ways to incorporate more physical activity into your daily life that can encourage increased fat burning and healthier living. Try walking or biking to work when the weather is nice; take several walks a day during your breaks; run around with your children and play tag; whatever you do, make sure you're moving your body and get your heart pumping.

Because they could only consume what they could catch or forage, the caveman had no choice but to eat smart. There was no 7-11 to pop into when the hankering for a corn dog or pizza pocket became overwhelming. When they were hungry, they hunted or picked wild fruits and vegetables.

This same idea can be carried over into today's modern world. We should eat only the most natural products possible and stay away from prepackaged, processed foods that come off store shelves. Heck, you can even go to your local farmer's market, u-pick berry fields, or food co-op and do some "foraging" there.

Do you think cavemen had access to a Slurpee machine? How about a bottle of Gatorade? The fact is, the only beverages cavemen could access were those that flowed from a natural stream or were contained inside fruits and vegetables. They didn't need artificially flavored sugar filled liquid sustenance because they had what Mother Nature offered to them - the healthiest drinks possible.

Fortunately, we have the same options available to us today, we just need to utilize them and exclude the drinks that do nothing for our bodies. The recommended rate of daily water consumption is to drink half your weight in ounces, I am sure our fellow cavemen drank much more than that in order to keep their bodies functioning properly while being so active.

So now that you have been schooled in the ways of the caveman, go out, pound your chest, dig in the dirt, and consume the most natural foods and beverages the Earth has to offer. Your body will thank you for it.
